The Balkans

The Balkans are Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, Romania and the European part of Turkey.

A powderkeg for centuries, they are one of the main battlefields where the Christian and Moslem worlds collide. Hatreds run deep, grudges date from the Middle Ages. World War I began here.
